Leif Photography

Gary had been trying to find someone local who could take a design he had purchased online and make it work for his purposes.  As it turned out, the design he purchased had a bunch of Flash that made it very difficult to modify.  I basically re-created the look of the design he bought, but dumped the Flash and added some PHP fed JavaScript slideshows (12 of them on the home page) and gave him a way to upload photographs that a script on the server resized, created thumbnails and moved to a folder for each of the 12 slideshows.  What he ended up with was the ability to change the photos that come up in the slideshows himself.  No need to call the web guy.

Once he got the “do crazy stuff with my website” bug, he had me add a custom blog that he uses to showcase shoots and let people download low resolution versions of their photos for use on sites like Facebook, add a music player that let him choose specific music based on the page, add a full blown photo gallery that lets him upload as many photos as he likes (I think there are a couple thousand as of today) and a way to upload tips and coupons to go with specific photo galleries.  Very fun site.  Gary really knows how to test my creativity in coding.

Sadler Aircraft Blog

Sadler’s website needed a way to be kept updated, but the original design was 100% Flash.  No good for quick, easy updates.  (I hate Flash, if I haven’t mentioned that…)  A custom blog seemed like just the thing.  This was before WordPress was as easy as it is now.  Creating a theme that matched their website required days of staring at thousands of lines of code.  In the end, we matched it almost exactly.

The end result included a blog they updated a couple times a week, a newsletter plugin that let them send out HTML newsletters to their fan base of a thousand, or so, people and links back to pages on the original Flash-based site.

Greg Russell Loans

Greg Russell is a local guy who makes property loans to people who can’t probably go to a bank.  His site needed a clean, professional look and needed to come up in Google.  I think the design I came up with fit the bill.  Pretty basic on tech.  No databases or scripting to speak of.  Easy to navigate and get the information you needed though.

American Home Lending

This was my first PHP-based site.  Took me days and days to do what I can do in about 5 minutes now.  Gotta learn somewhere though, right?  The design is horribly dated by today’s standards, but back in 2003, or so, it was quite nice.  The PHP included a small database that let them update mortgage rates several times a day.  Again, pretty simple, but back then databases were for eBay and Amazon.  Not small town mortgage companies.  :)

Valley Credit Service

This is a site I just finished.  It’s a custom WordPress conversion.  I know, I know.  I’ve done a bunch of them now.  This on had to include a way to embed a special client application served from a secure server inside the WordPress framework.  Tech stuff aside, it really wasn’t as difficult as I thought it was going to be and it came out great.

The site includes some of the basics, like custom background and header, highly modified WordPress theme, self-managed testimonials, some custom graphics and a secure contact form.  The client seems to really like it.  I hope their clients do too.

Consumer Credit Counseling of Douglas County

This is a site I did a long time ago.  Surprisingly, the design is still quite pleasing.  It’s pretty simple.  Static text, no databases.  Couple little scripts to grab a random testimonial and display it on the right side.  Oh, and some downloadable forms and legal information.

If you need some help, I highly recommend them.  They’re local and they care.

Total Archive

by Matt Danskine — Categories: WordPress PluginsNo Comments

This is my first plugin. Pretty simple really. I needed something that would allow one of my clients to create an archive of their whole WP site and database, then download it so it didn’t take up a bunch of space on my server.

A few things to keep in mind. I wrote this for my server. Your mileage may vary. I’m running a LAMP server with all latest stable releases (PHP 5.3+, MySQL 5+, Apache 2+) and gzip installed. That may or may not be important. I’m no server guy. All I know for certain is it works with that configuration. I suspect that it will run on most any LAMP setup, but I can’t guarantee it.

One nice thing… The file that is created is named with the site title, date and time of creation and the WP version it’s running. If there’s a server crash, or your web guy dies, you know exactly what you have to do to get back up and running quickly.

If you use it and appreciate it, please throw me a bone. :)

The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team

by Matt Danskine — Categories: Misc., Web WorkNo Comments

This was my first website EVER.  Doesn’t look like much now, but in 2001 it was quite the site.  :)

Flash accordion menu, a page for arrest photos and press releases, lots of graphics work.  Those were the good old days when everything was hand coded.  No databases, no Dreamweaver, no PHP.

Illahee Ranch

This is a second single property website for Jennifer Cramer with Prudential Roseburg and Bill Woods.  Bill wanted to be able to showcase the beauty and privacy of his property.  What better way than with a custom website and a photo gallery?

Waterstone Crossing

This was a website done for a single property.  Not that unusual these days, but back in 2005, it was almost unheard of.  Jennifer Cramer with Prudential here in Roseburg came to me when her client, Bill Woods, expressed an interest in thinking outside the box a bit.  We worked together to put this site together and I think it came out great!  Heavy on design it really showcased the features of the townhouses they were selling.

Since then I have done several other websites for Bill and Jennifer, including IllaheeRanch.com, BuyRoseburg.com and FlyRoseburg.com.  I’m sure there are a couple more, but I’ll be damned if I can remember what they are.  I think I’m getting old or something.  :)
